The European golfing tour heads to the Czech Republic this week, with the Albatross Golf Club in Prague hosting the Czech Masters, starting Thursday.
The course is long, measuring over 7,400 yards, with average width fairways, thus favouring the long hitters.
And they don’t come much longer than Thomas Pieters. The Belgian big hitter triumphed on this course in 2015, finished second last year, and arrives this week as the favourite. He did miss the cut last week when defending in Denmark, but consistency has never been his thing. It’s true 8/1 is a short price given that inconsistent nature, but he is returning to a venue that clearly suits and the top of the market looks a little thin. Given this tournament marks the start of next year’s Ryder Cup qualification, an event Pieters starred at last time, we see the Belgian giving it his all. This makes him worth a two point bet.
Our second pick is Julian Suri. The American won last week, claiming his first European Tour title in just his seventh attempt. Suri is following the likes of Brooks Koepka and Peter Uihlein in coming to Europe to try and establish his game. At 25/1 we may have lost some of the value after his win in Denmark, but we now know he is in form and hits the ball a long way. Back to back wins are not impossible.
Pieters to win at 8/1, 2 pt, widely available
Suri to win at 25/1, 1 pt, widely available
