All eyes will be on transfer deadline day today (here’s hoping for some major movements at the Emirates), but we will have our focus on some academy talent.
Nurseries, handicaps for equine toddlers, can be very tricky, but equally offer a chance to back a horse the handicapper can only guess at.
Musselburgh runs two such races today. The market for the first of those (1400 BST) is topped by dual winner The Placebo Effect. Aptly, the horse’s form is probably not as potent as it looks, with two wins in low grade sellers and a third in a nursery last time.
Mountain Approach is fancied in blinkers, that could bring about improvement and he must have a chance for his top stable. On form though, he should be held by Burnieboozle.
Burnie has earned top weight here, often a good sign in these races, and has loads of scope for improvement having stayed on well to finish comfortably ahead of Mountain Approach last time. He looks good value.
The second division of the nursery (1430) sees the lightly raced big-yard horse Claramara tussling for favouritism with the small stable course winning nursery form of Kikini Bamalaam.
The course form looks preferable, and Kikini deserves to be marked up for that win as his rider dropped his whip at a crucial moment.
Even so, we prefer the flying form of the Kevin Ryan yard. His representative Foxy Lady showed a glimpse of promise last time and is bred to improve, with a mark of 60 looking very workable.
Market support would improve confidence, she is well drawn, and can improve past the favourites to keep the winners flowing for the red-hot stable.
Burnieboozle, (1400 Musselburgh), 1pt win, 11/2 generally available
Foxy Lady, (1430 Musselburgh), 1pt win, 11/2 generally available
Burnieboozle & Foxy Lady, 1pt win double, approx 42/1
