World Cup Qualifier: England to scrape home

England continue their march to the World Cup in Russia next year with a match against Slovakia tonight at Wembley.

The hosts may have struggled to impress in Malta on Friday, late goals padded the score, but the three points gained means England now leads the group by two points. A win tonight against the team in second place would leave the Three Lions on the cusp of qualifying for the finals.

Now it’s true England have rarely looked like world beaters during this campaign, but they have tended to get the job done.

It won’t be easy tonight. Slovakia have won their last five qualifiers, and England have only scored once against them in the last two games (in the 95th minute when facing 10 men).

We at Lap of the Odds think England will struggle to take control of the game, and look for a draw at halftime before the home side clinch a narrow victory in the second half.

Recommendation: Draw at halftime, England win at full time, 1 pt, at 3/1, SkyBet
