So it is official – we have become rather fond of September.
After the 3pt 11/1 weekend hit of Masham Star and the 13/2 Monday follow-up of Tarboosh, Kempton’s closing race proved that good things come to those that wait as our Wednesday pick, Franny Nisbet, flashed home for a short head victory at a highly rewarding 14/1. (“Wednesday Races: Simply Frantastic…”).
As expected, Franny is improving and needs every yard of this staying trip – and by that we mean literally every yard. Held up miles behind, she still had nearly all the field to pass with two furlongs to run. Then jockey Martin Dwyer conjuring up a surging run that had her in the lead just a couple of inches from the line.
A narrow victory, which looked like a place at best even 50 yards from the finish (and a momentary thought of “why win and not each way?”)), but when you catch a wave, these photo finishes land in your favour….long may the surf be up…long live September.
