The NFL season kicked off Thursday, with the Kansas City Chiefs surprising the defending champions New England Patriots in their home ground.
Having already picked the Chiefs to top the AFC West division (NFL: Divisional Triumphs), this was good news for subscribers.
Now our eyes turn to the first Sunday of the season, and the next chance of a bet.
Carolina Panthers had a poor season last year after reaching the Super Bowl the year before. And it’s true quarterback Cam Newton may be a little rusty after having shoulder surgery during the close season, but surely they will still be too good for the very weak San Francisco 49ers, even with a 4.5 point handicap.
Next we take Houston Texans to overcome a 4.5 point handicap in beating the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Texans will be keen to give their home fans something to cheer after the suffering induced by Hurricane Harvey, while the Jags’ quarterback Blake Bortles has yet to impress.
Finally, we take the Cincinnati Bengals to see off the Baltimore Ravens at home, even with a 2.5 point handicap. Both teams failed to make the playoffs last season but the Bengals have tended to have the edge in this contest. In fact the Ravens haven’t won in Cincinnati since 2011, and we expect this run to continue.
Recommendations: Panthers, Texans and Bengals all to win, 1 pt, at approximately 5.7/1, SkyBet (2way handicap betting)
