Monday Races: Yikes, will Scooby Do?

There is nothing like a young lightly raced progressive handicapper to whet the appetite, and Captain Scooby is indeed nothing like a young lightly raced progressive handicapper.

This veteran is a venerable 11 years old.  He has one of the busiest careers in modern racing and the opener at Carlisle tomorrow (1345 BST) looks set to be run number 195 !

He now has a basement level rating and he is not the horse he was – albeit that in itself wasn’t particularly good.

That said his better runs have come on the prevailing heavy ground, and some of his best work has come here at Carlisle.

This will be the first time he gets both heavy ground and Carlisle, and whilst much of his form nowadays befits his pensioner status, there was a hint at Ffos Las when encountering  heavy for the first time this season that he may be capable of running into the frame here.

On a light news day he is the betting equivalent of a skateboarding dog, but he looks overpriced granted the conditions.

Recommendation: Captain Scooby, (1345 Carlisle), 0.5pts each way, 25/1 generally available
