Another busy day of racing stretches out like an all-you-can-eat Kazakh buffet…plentiful, but mostly comprising of slow horses, and not particularly appetising.
In the absence of a Frankelburger to lump on, we’ll just nibble on the vegetarian option and head to the chilly plains of Redcar for a little dabble.
Ostensibly a flat featureless course, Redcar nonetheless still favours course specialists. And the one to focus on today is in the staying handicap (1630 BST) in the shape of Stanarley Pic.
This slugger made all to win over this course and distance in August. That narrow win earned a 5lb rise, but that looks very fair given that the front two pulled a long way clear, and the runner up has since won under a higher mark.
The main danger is probably handicap debutant Royal Headley who is bred to enjoy this longer trip. He is a short enough price however and there are far fewer unknowns in form or tactics for our selection.
Not a menu for filling our plate, there will be much tastier options coming up at Ayr later in the week.
Recommendation: Stanarley Pic, (1630 Redcar), 1pt win, 4/1 generally available
