Wednesday Races: It’s written in the stars…

Very close but not quite yesterday, and to go one better we will eschew the tasty card at Sandown and head north to one of our favourites, Beverley.

The 5f sprint handicap (1600 BST) has a very interesting look.  The obvious start point is Ruth Carr’s in-form Suwaan, who followed up a smooth Musselburgh win with an excellent second at Doncaster last week.  He must have a decent chance, but he does hold his head high and may have a few ideas of his own, which doesn’t always suit this idiosyncratic course.

Second favourite Mininggold also has a recent win followed by a good big-track effort this time at Ascot and he looks a real danger.

We though want to take on the draw bias by going to box 10 and the course regular Astrophysics.  You don’t need to be Stephen Hawking to see that this one has a chance based on two good seconds in big fields here off a 1lb higher mark this Summer.

The fly in the ointment is a moderate run last time – but horses at this level are prone to throwing in the odd bad run, and it can pay to excuse them.  We know this horse enjoys the track and is on a winning mark.  Stall 10 may not be ideal, but as a horse who likes to drop in, it may be better than an inside draw where traffic trouble can frequently be an issue.

Recommendation:  Astrophysics, (1600 Beverley), 1pt win, 10/1 generally available
