The US golfing season comes to a head this week, with the final event of the four-tournament FedEx Cup playoff, the Tour Championship.
East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta hosts a field which consists of the top 30 players of the past PGA Tour season.
Our first selection will come as no surprise to regular readers of the Lap of the Odds blog, step forward Jordan Speith.
We picked him to win the first two events of the FedEx Cup for him to come second twice. Still, he’s in prime form, won around here in 2015 and finished second two years before that. It’s true he is a short price, but the field is down to 30 and the guy is playing really well. He’s worth a confident two point selection, but we’ll take half a point from him and use that to double with George Coetzee, our tip for the Portugal Masters. (European Golf: Just George (and Justin)…)
Our next selection is a bit of a punt, largely based on SkyBet offering six places for their each way bets, i.e. a fifth of the field. Kyle Stanley makes his East Lake debut this week, and showed signs of coming back to form at the Dell Technologies Championship. He hits the ball long and straight, and just needs his putter to work for the 100/1 odds to look very large.
Speith to win at 5/1, 1.5 pts, widely available
Stanley 0.5 pts each way at 100/1, 1/5 the odds for first six, SkyBet
Speith & Coetzee 0.5 pt win double at approximately 203/1.
