Presidents Cup: Five pairings, fourballs, one outcome….

The second day of the Presidents Cup sees five fourball match-ups. We were just a Phil Mickelson 6 footer away from calling the first day as 4-1 for the home stars, but Lefty shaved the hole, had to settle for a half point and scuppered our 11/2.

Well today’s fourballs look just as much of a mismatch. Speith and Reed will probably only need the pin-placements for around 12 or 13 holes in a mismatch with an out of sorts Matsuyama and journeyman Hadwin. Whist the last match has Scott and Vegas cast as Davids against the Goliaths of Johnson and Koepka.

The middle three games promise more competition. The Internationals line up their star duo Oosthuizen and Grace against the dynamic Thomas and Fowler,  and that may finally be the undoing of the Saffers.

Lefty gets a chance of redemption in a rematch with Day and Leishman. We think the Aussies could provide the only ray of light for the visitors.

The previously rested Chappell and Hoffman both have the hit and miss that beg for fourballs golf and may just have the edge on Schwartzel and Lahiri.

All told we are going to reload on a 4-1 home margin.

Recommendation: Day 2 correct score:  USA 4 International 1, 1pt win,  6/1 Paddy Power
