Across the pond, the glorious tradition known as the fall classic gets underway this week with the beginning of the baseball playoffs, and we at Lap of the Odds (with a nod to our US correspondent Corey Boles) expect the Tribe to go on the war path.
This year’s playoffs see a bevy of the biggest names in the MLB getting a chance at a taste of glory: the LA Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs and the New York Yankees to name a few. But, it will be the Cleveland Indians, who came so close to winning their first World Series in nearly 70 years last year before falling to the Cubs, who we expect to complete the task this year.
We already have a bet on the Indians winning the American League (Baseball: Indians on the Warpath…), but we now expect even more.
The Tribe nearly got there last year despite missing two of their best starting pitchers and amid questions over the health of two others. They leaned heavily on the arms in their bullpen. This year, both their starting pitching and relief corps rank among the best in baseball, they have several huge bats ready to make a sizeable impact, all led by the maestro that is manager Terry Francona.
To be sure, it won’t be easy, but at 15/4 we think there is definitely value in backing the Tribe in ending baseball’s longest drought to capture the championship.
Recommendation: Cleveland Indians to win World Series at 15/4, 1 pt, Paddy Power
