No real turf opportunities on the flat today, and with the nascent jumps season only just starting to take shape, we will venture on to the all-weather surface and a useful card at Chelmsford.
The mile handicap (1915 BST), features two last time out winning 3yos from top yards. The Queen’s Musical Terms will be popular for the Stoute/Moore combo. It wasn’t the best race he won last time and the form hasn’t worked out. He is bred to handle the surface but hasn’t seen it in competition yet.
Fellow 3yo Tamayef looks more of a danger after a smooth Kempton win last time. Again though the form hasn’t really worked out that well since and the rise in the weights may just scupper him.
We prefer a proven older horse in the form of 6yo Buckland Beau. He is still a maiden on the turf but has 4 wins on the all-weather.
He has been ok on turf all season without threatening a win, but the return to optimal conditions here for the first time in over a year can spark the improvement.
He runs here off 76 having won off 76 and 79 last year and he has looked ready to return to his best in recent runs.
Trainer Fellowes is in flying form as is pilot Oisin Murphy. A wide draw shouldn’t inconvenience his hold up tactics and he looks very well priced in a race that’s thinner in quality than at first glance.
Recommendation: Buckland Beau, (1915 Chelmsford), 1pt run, 10/1 generally available
