Saturday Races: Constable masterpiece…

Some top class racing at Newmarket today, but the highlight for us is the mighty Cesarewitch, the big staying handicap (1540 BST).

No need to analyse loads of runners here, this race starts and ends at the top of the market with John Constable.

The Evan Williams trained gelding has not been seen on the flat for 3 years, however he has been in stunning recent form over hurdles.

A gelding and wind operation saw a transformation which should have resulted in an Aintree win but for some tactical blunders.

That was put right in no uncertain terms at Haydock and again at Market Rasen, performances that have seen his hurdles rating rocket.

Meanwhile his flat rating remains a tasty 88, that sees him here on a great racing weight.

Hurdlers have a superb record in the race, he has a crucial low draw, and the assistance of ex-champion Jim Crowley.

We tipped him antepost at the start of September, but even if you took some 14s then, it’s worth topping up at the 9s now as the field is not as strong as it might have been and the draw had been very kind.

We limit ourselves to a maximum 3pt bet, of which this will be our 5th this year, and if we had more to stake, we would.

Recommendation:

John Constable, (1540 Newmarket), 3pts win, 9/1 Coral, BetVictor
