After talking ourselves off regular pick Muntadeb yesterday and watching him make all at 8/1, we’ll take the afternoon off to gently seethe and lick the self-inflicted wounds and wait for the evening action at Kempton.
I can’t say that a gelding operation would necessarily make me run any faster afterwards, maybe the threat of one might make me run faster beforehand, but it does seem to improve the performance of horses.
That takes us to the 1945 race this evening, where Innstigator will be making his first appearance since the unkindest of snips.
The lightly raced 3yo had been given an opening handicap mark of 63 in the summer, but three poor turf efforts saw that clipped down to 52 when he overcame a slow start back here last time to pass most of the field to finish fourth.
Despite that first glimpse of form he was dropped further to just 48. That alone would be interesting given the promise of that last run, but the gelding operation may just have been a response to concentration issues that had him so far behind.
A more focussed effort could make him good value in this weak field.
Recommendation: Innstigator, (1945 Kempton), 1pt win, 10/1 generally available
