We are going to tempt fate today. We seem to have hit a spell of trouble in running on our selections, and today’s pick is entirely based on the as yet unfulfilled promise of a horse who has himself had a desperate run of poor luck in recent races.
The race is the 1535 at Nottingham over 10f on ground the softer side of good.
Favourite Jupiter Light from the powerful Gosden yard has an unusual Australian pedigree. All his form has been on faster ground so far and if the ground stays softish here then there may be questions to answer.
We prefer the iron-clad 10f soft ground credentials of the busy Montjeu gelding Indian Chief.
He has run 8 races since the start of August. But for two very narrow defeats he may have won the first four of those runs, and even though up in the weights, his last 4 defeats have all been after significant traffic issues.
Last time over this course and conditions he was beaten around two lengths into fifth but only after a doomed attempt to make a run up the inside. Such was the extent of the hampering, he earned the rarely used expression for a loser of “barely came off the bridle”.
The classy and in form jockey Danny Tudhope gets the leg up, and as he showed for us last week on Buonarroti, he is particularly good at delivering these smooth travelling bridle horses. He gets a confident 2 point pick.
Now, all he needs is smooth run through…..famous last words !!
Recommendation: Indian Chief, (1535 Nottingham), 2pts win, 15/2 Ladbrokes, Coral
