The end of October sees the annual 3 day Autumn Horses in Training sale ( the HIT sales). This is a clear out from numerous large stables of older horses to allow room for next year’s new recruits. Buyers often include the Middle and Far East for quality flat horses, and many jumps trainers looking for new blood.
It is always worth bearing that sales catalogue in mind at this time of the year as many trainers aim to get an eye catching recent win on the CV before horses enter the sales ring.
Ace trainer John Gosden doesn’t miss a trick. He has the promising Eldritch entered at the sale. This horse showed huge promise in the Spring including a taking win at Doncaster.
He missed the summer, and returned a gelding at Kempton last week. He disappointed slightly in finishing fourth as joint favourite- but he looked ill at ease on the turning track there and only really consented to run on properly late in the race.
That run may have sharpened him up, and Gosden has wisely picked the all weather track with the longest straight allowing time for him to build up his finishing effort.
A pre-sales win looks to have been well plotted.
Recommendation: Eldritch, (1745 Newcastle), 1pt win, 11/4 generally available
