A very busy weekend with quality flat racing and the first Cheltenham fixture of the jumps season will all have to be placed on simmer as we deal with a contrastingly mundane Thursday.
We’ll be on the late shift, waiting on the penultimate race of the day at Chelmsford’s evening meeting.
Trainer Archie Watson may sound like a music hall comedian, but he has been in excellent form with his small string of horses in the back end of the season.
He runs the lightly raced Mach One, returning to a mile having just faded late on over 10f last time.
With just six lifetime runs including three quiet handicap runs this season he is very tricky to rate, both for punters and handicappers alike.
There have been clear signs at Kempton and last time here that he is capable of a lot more than he has been able to show so far.
Jockey Oisin Murphy is a positive, and he is well berthed in stall 3. The opposition is none too frightening and this could be another one for Archie.
Recommendation: Mach One, (2015 Chelmsford), 1pt win, 9/2 Ladbrokes
