Premier League: Gross to delight…

Today’s first Premier League game is a south coast derby, as Southampton travel to the Amex Stadium to take on Brighton.

This game is sure to be fiercely contested – there is only one point between the teams and local pride is at stake.

That said, goals are likely to be at a premium. Southampton have failed to score in nine of their last 15 Premier League matches while Brighton’s 3-0 win at West Ham last time out was only the second time this season they had scored more than one.

It may take a moment of magic to create a goal, and we at Lap of the Odds are looking at Pascal Gross to provide this. The German midfielder has been involved in six of Brighton’s nine league goals this season. Given this, we’ll take the 7/1 that he is named man of the match.

Next up Leicester host Everton. Both teams have been struggling this season, and both have recently parted company with their managers.

However, the Foxes have quickly appointed former Southampton manager Claude Puel, and ended a six-game winless run at Swansea’s expense last weekend. Everton have caretaker manager David Unsworth in charge and are winless in their last 12 Premier League away games.

Everton have kept only one clean sheet in nine league matches this season, and it’s difficult to see them keeping the home team out today. That said, Leicester have only kept their opponents scoreless in two  occasions this season as well.

Thus, we at Lap of the Odds will take Leicester to win, with both teams scoring.

Brighton’s Gross named man of the match, 1 pt, at 7/1, William Hill

Leicester to win with both teams scoring, 1 pt, at 3/1, widely available
