Well after last night’s unmitigated success it may be asking too much for lightning to strike twice, but we will venture back into the storm of the Breeders Cup in hope of another bolt from the blue.
Tonight’s main card features numerous hard to oppose favourites, and the dirt races in particular promise little for those opposing the likes of Moonshine Memories, Drefong, Bolt D’Oro and Arrogate in the Classic.
The value lies mainly in the turf races. The Sprint (1937) has a short priced favourite in Lady Aurelia who is clearly the likeliest winner. But Marsha pipped Lady Aurelia last time so she is beatable. Both Cotai Glory and Washington DC are capable of springing surprises, but we’ll take a local contender in Disco Partner who is ideally drawn in stall 1, stays well, and could pick up the pieces if the pace is intense.
The Mares Turf (2100) has a warm local fancy in Lady Eli who again looks the most likely. The leading UK and Irish challengers, Rhododendron, Wuheida and Queens Trust may find this sharp track and quick ground less suitable, but French fancy, Senga, is US bred, well stalled in 2, and a lover of quick ground. She is the value against the solid market leader.
The Mile (2219) has another solid local contender in World Approval, but he’s worth taking on by a European challenger. Ribchester is best but drawn in the carpark and Roly Poly is even wider. We prefer the 7f speed of Suedois or the fast ground loving Lancaster Bomber. We’ll hope that the Bomber, twice a runner up in top US Mile races, finally gets his day in the sun from a handy stall 4 position.
The Turf should go to Aidan’s Highland Reel but that won’t make you rich. Whilst not part of the Breeders Cup programme, the 5f juvenile turf sprint (1820) looks one for the raiders. Sound And Silence tops the bill, but although miles behind that one at Ascot, the round-the-bend fast ground form of Corinthia Knight could offer some value.
Corinthia Knight (1820 Del Mar), 1pt win, 12/1 Bet365
Disco Partner (1937 Del Mar), 1pt win, 15/2 generally available
Senga (2100 Del Mar), 2pts win, 12/1 generally available
Lancaster Bomber (2219 Del Mar), 1pt win 12/1 generally available
All of the above 0.5pt each way accumulator.
