The World Cup qualifying play-offs kick off tonight, with Croatia hosting Greece and Northern Ireland welcoming Switzerland.
The bookies have chalked up the Croats as warm favourites, and we wouldn’t argue as one of the best teams in Europe on their day they should have too much for Greece.
We prefer a bet in Belfast where the hosts will be trying to take a result over to Switzerland for the second leg.
Northern Ireland have proven strong in qualification in a tough group, but the Swiss were very unlucky not to qualify after nine wins from 10, losing out on goal difference to Euro champions Portugal.
We think the Swiss will get something from the game. They carry familiar Premier League threat from Shaqiri and Xhaka. Both could score, but also both offer quality in set-piece delivery.
Irish and West Brom centre back duo, McAuley and Evans, whilst a danger in attack have been surpringly vulnerable at defending set pieces this season.
That adds up to a Swiss set-piece threat and step forward promising centre back Fabian Schar. With 7 goals in 33 appearances he should be priced statistically at 4s or 5s to score, but we can get much better than that and that makes him the tip.
Recommendation: Fabian Schar, Anytime Goalscorer, 1pt win, 9/1 William Hill, Betfred.
