Doncaster bookends the turf flat season as having opened with the Lincoln, it now closes with the customary November handicap card.
Mentioning the Lincoln brings this year’s winner Bravery to mind. That success was an early strike after the switch to the canny O’Meara yard after starting life in Ireland.
He returns today to contest the 7f handicap (1335 GMT) and in doing so contests his shortest distance since a 2yo debut.
He was a tidy winner of the Lincoln, is lower here, and after struggling on Summer ground has shown a return to his best with the rain of the Autumn.
Back at this track for the first time since his win, he can stay on well and put a marker down for course specialism.
In tipping him we of course ignore final chances to tip blog regulars Muntadeb, Shady McCoy and Bertiewhittle – there’s a tricast in the making…
The main event looks booked for the unexposed and potentially improving 3yo Royal Line.
Trainer Gosden often does well in this event and the big field strong pace and soft ground here will suit a lot better than when a 3 runner event resulted in a first defeat last time.
Not much appeals against him, and if he does have progression then this is there for the taking.
Bravery, (1335 Doncaster), 1pt win, 9/1 Coral
Royal Line, (1515 Doncaster), 1pt win, 6/1 generally available
Bravery & Royal Line, 1pt win double, approx 69/1
