World Cup Qualifier: Tight in Denmark

Saturday evening sees the Republic of Ireland travel to Copenhagen to take on the hosts Denmark in the play-off first leg to see who qualifies for the World Cup in Russia next year.

This won’t be an easy task for the Irish. Denmark are ranked 19th in the world, six places above their opponents, and have lost just one of their last eight home matches.

That said, the Irish have become very difficult to beat away from home of late, posting a run of six competitive away games without defeat – including the key victory in Cardiff last time out.

Like most of these first leg play-off games, we at Lap of the Odds expect a very tight game. Both sides will be reluctant to throw caution to the wind now, knowing a second leg awaits.

A goalless draw does appeal, but we’ll take a draw at half time followed by a draw at full time at 7/2.

Recommendation: Draw at half time, draw at full time, 1 pt, at 7/2, SkyBet
