Sunday Races: Hou’s the daddy…

Well, thankfully an interesting Sunday card at Navan and Sandown can help us forget a Remembrance Day where we talked ourselves out of a few winners.

From what might-have-been to what could be.  Sandown’s card has some fascinating action including the return of the uber-talented rogue Might Bite.

For betting action we prefer the Veterans chase.  We backed Double Ross to win one of these last time and he ran a decent third.  This course should suit but he looks very short in the market.

We like Houblon Des Obeaux.  This talented old timer was good enough to run second in his reappearance in a Hennessey Gold Cup off a mark of 157 three years ago, and was third in the Welsh National when reappearing last year off 153.

Today’ race is a cut below that class at least, and a mark of 141 looks enticing.

Trainer Venetia Williams traditionally starts the season slowly, she has had one winner in the last month, but her horses are starting to run better and she would love nothing better than to win this with a horse who by now is tantamount to the household pet.

Recommendation: Houblon Des Obeaux, 1530 Sandown, 1pt win, 11/2 Coral
