Northern Ireland travel to Basel this evening having to beat their hosts Switzerland in order to qualify for the World Cup next year.
If righteous anger was a determining factor then they would already be booking their tickets to Russia–the Swiss benefitted from a ridiculous penalty decision in the first leg–but it’s not!
In truth the Swiss were the better side, and now play at home where they have lost only once in 17 games, a run that goes back to 2001. A home win looks likely.
The second game sees Croatia travel to Greece, defending a 4-1 advantage.
Now it’s likely the Greeks will put in a better performance at home than in the first leg, but the Croatians are a talented side and a more open game from the hosts could easily see them being picked apart again.
We’ll go for an away win here.
Luckily Paddy Power has boosted its odds for a double of Switzerland and Croatia to 11/4 from 2/1, and we’ll have some of that.
Recommendation: Switzerland and Croatia to win in a double, 1 pt, at 11/4, Paddy Power
