Tuesday Races: Bewleys to prosper

Dubliners have recently greeted the re-opened Grafton Street tea-room and institution, Bewleys, with queues around the block (my mother-in-law swears by their cherry buns).

It will be a different Bewleys who can stimulate queues at the bookies by landing the 2m handicap hurdle at Sedgefield this afternoon (1350 GMT).

Trainer and jockey Bewley combo, George and Jonathan, launch the 6yo mare Mitcd on a recovery mission after a narrow defeat here last time.

She led until the run-in that day, and it was only the sharp uphill climb of the last 75yds that saw her fade back to a close third.  The winner that day has won twice again since, so the form looks solid.

Expect Jonathon to try and deliver her a fraction later this time and hopefully hold on.

Favourite Sleep In First has to overcome a dauntingly long layoff, whilst Handy Hollow could improve but is lumbered with top weight.

Everything looks in Mitcd’s favour, cue the Bewleys celebrations, and a decent price can be the cherry on our bun.

Recommendation:  Mitcd, (1350 Sedgefield), 1pt win, 13/2 Skybet
