You could not face two more radically different jumping challenges than today’s contrast of the sharp right handed good ground Ludlow, and the sweeping left handed heavy ground mud-slog at Haydock.
Well, horses for courses as they say. We prospered recently when backing heavy ground lover Clan Legend at Hexham. He was one of the easiest winners you’ll ever see, and although shunted up the weights accordingly, his proven mud-larkery is worth much more than those extra pounds, and he is confidently expected to follow up in the Haydock muck.
Meanwhile at Ludlow it is worth expecting class to come to the fore on the good ground. Top weight in the staying chase falls to Kim Bailey’s useful Duelling Banjos.
After a cracking seasonal debut at Exeter, he was made favourite for a strong amateur riders race at Cheltenham’s prestigious November meeting. A bad mistake in the second circuit knocked him back, even then his eighth still was beaten that far.
This course may suit a bit better than Cheltenham, and he can use the class drop to his advantage against a favourite, Audacious Plan, who steps up in class having won for us last time around Sedgefield.

Duelling Banjos, (1405 Ludlow), 1pt win, 9/2 generally available
