Friday Races: Pick a winner?

Finally an uptick in quality as the weekend warmup heads to Esher and those famous Sandown fences.

We are going to get things over and done in a hurry by aiming our selection at the meeting’s opener (1250).

An amateur riders race always adds an extra dimension with the variable quality in the saddle.

One man whose abilities can’t be questioned is the Gold Cup winning amateur Sam Waley-Cohen, and he gets the leg up on our selection Pickamix.

This horse was a useful and progressive staying hurdler before embarking on a chasing career this season.

He has taken to it well and was staying on well when narrowly beaten into third last time in a good quality Cheltenham handicap.

With progressive form on his side, an excellent recent run, and probably the best jockey in the race, he has ticks in every box and provided he copes with those railway fences then he should take a world of beating.

Recommendation:  Pickamix, (1250 Sandown), 2pts win, 3/1 generally available
