So the weather is starting to have its say on the racing programme and we are left picking the bones out of a Fontwell and Southwell combination.
Nothing appeals much over jumps, so for the second Monday in a row we head to the sands of Southwell hoping to repeat last week’s Fibresand profits.
Another looking to repeat a Southwell success from seven days ago is sprinter Archie Stevens, and we think he can.
It may look madness to expect a 22/1 winner to repeat a victory that broke a 31 race losing streak. However, when a sprinter finds form on this surface it is worth surfing the wave.
There was nothing fluky about the style of Archie’s win, and the horse he beat in the final furlong was a strongly fancied favourite with the rest well beaten.
He has little of merit to beat here, and we are basically getting odds on whether a horse can run the same race twice in 8 days. We say yes.
Recommendation: Archie Stevens, (1530 Southwell), 1pt win, 7/2 generally available
