November Results – How did we do?

Honours even in November as horse race winnings broadly offset golf losses.

The Headlines:

Bets Advised:   105

Points Profit/Loss:   +2

Pool Return:  +2%

The basis for Pool Return is discussed on the Our Results page of the site, where previous months’ results can be accessed.

Horse Racing saw a 10pt profit from 66 staked. This came mostly on one great night on the first evening of the Breeders Cup, with 2pt pick Mendelssohn steaming home at a nice 11/2.  (Across sports, there were no 3pt bets, and six 2pt bets this month, with wins at 11/2 and 4/1).  The rest of the month was give and take, the best takes being Magic Dancer (13/2) and Cresswell Breeze (9/1).  Already, December is looking strong.

Football ended flat from 24 bets. Our best successes have been based on backing the top premier league teams when facing apparently “tricky” away ties, on the belief that the gap between top and mid tier clubs is greater than currently priced in. We have suffered a few late goal agonies that will be familiar to any who punt with frequency on football. We’ll continue to look for the edge on those top teams until the bookies catch up.

Golf was a near wash-out, albeit we had adjusted stakes accordingly given the curious nature of end-of-term golf events.  Our near miss was Alexander Bjork’s missed 3 footer to force a play-off at 60/1 in Hong Kong. Naturally the each way return also coincided with our reduced staking plan so trimming 3pts off our returns. We will remain very cautious through December.

Other sports leaked a point, with a winning NFL bet offset by four losing NFL bets. The gridiron continues to frustrate in one of the least predictable years in memory.

Many thanks again for your support,  please stay tuned for the busy racing and football Christmas fixtures…
