Tuesday Races: Get an Edge up north…

The best racing of the day comes from the unlikely source of North Yorkshire and that sharp spin around Catterick.

At the start of November we were sweet on West Of The Edge for a race at Sedgefield.  He owes us as the losing part of a double that day, but in truth he wasn’t helped by a slowly run race, and his endless stamina only started to shine through too late for victory.

Catterick is a similarly sharp track, but with a much larger field likely to set a stronger pace, this race may be more suitable tactically and we see Dr Newland’s stable likely to pinch another early season success.

An hour later, the 2m chasing test here is likely to be fast and furious.  Whilst it often pays to sit back off a strong pace, Catterick does lend itself to pace setters being hard to catch.

Halcyon Days was prolific last season including here, and his opening close second at Ayr suggests further progress to come.

He is quick, and can either lead or sit on the leader’s tail, which should be tactically  ideal for this test.

Well worth a dabble.

Recommendations:

West Of The Edge, (1350 Catterick), 1pt win, 4/1 generally available

Halcyon Days, (1450 Catterick), 1pt win, 9/2 generally available

West Of The Edge & Halcyon Days, 1pt win double, approx 22/1
