Premier League: Gross profit

The New Year starts with a bang in the Premier League, or at least with a ‘B’ as the early game today sees Brighton host Bournemouth.

This is a vitally important game for both sides, as the three points gained by a win will lift either well clear of the relegation zone.

Bournemouth beat Everton on Saturday, ending a run of eight Premier League games without a win, and are sure to be buoyed by this. However, they are racked with injuries and it’s difficult to see where the goals come from, particularly against Brighton’s strong defence.

The home side have also been struggling to scored late, but we’ll take German midfielder Pascal Gross to provide enough quality to win the man of the match award.

The late game sees Everton host Manchester United.

The Red Devils looked a certainty for a top four spot a few games ago, but three successive draws have seen their rivals close the gap. They are suffering from injuries up front, both Lukaku and Ibrahimovic are out, and are struggling to score goals.

They now face an Everton side (and former favourite Wayne Rooney) which has responded well to the appointment of Sam Allardyce as manager, being unbeaten in their last five Premier League games.

We think the absence of top strikers and a resurgent Everton side point to another draw for Manchester United.

Gross to win man of the match for Brighton, 1 pt, at 8/1, William Hill

Everton and Man United to draw, 1 pt, at 13/5, widely available
