Thursday Races: Tribe on the warpath

A veritable smorgasbord of all-weather racing today, but we are going to shun the dirt for the only turf action of the day at Bangor-on-Dee.

The North Wales track can be testing at the best of times, but an official going of heavy suggests a proper old-fashioned knitted colours slog.

The opening 2m4f novice handicap chase has all the hallmarks of 9 start and 2 finish.

The top of the market is headed by two horses with terrible past form but good recent point-to-point form in The Kings Writ and Ballyegan Warrior.  Punters get burnt regularly by the points-to-rules form conversion and we would treat with caution.

Next in the betting is the 7yo mare Parlour Made, but she is making her chasing debut here which is a tough ask in this ground.

We much prefer the experience and form of Oneida Tribe.  He is lightly raced for a 9yo, but has had three runs over fences, performing with credit on each occasion.

As far as chasing form under Rules he is the pick here.  The breeding, by Turtle Island, is old school, and he would be from one of the sire’s last crops.  The outstanding Turtle Island characteristic is a preference for very soft ground, so today’s conditions may well offer a chance to show some improvement.

Recommendation:  Oneida Tribe, (1315 Bangor), 1pt win, 9/2 generally available
