Tuesday Races: Take Flight at Taunton

Well yesterday’s tip spent a nice day at home after Hereford’s abandonment, and whilst Doncaster is near the top of our favourite tracks, the 50/50 prospect of racing has encouraged us to look elsewhere.

Taunton opens with a mares handicap hurdle – this is low grade stuff, but mares are always worth a close look as they can burst into good form almost from nowhere.

Well, Flight To Nowhere may be just such an example.  To say her debut hurdling campaign last season was underwhelming would be hugely flattering- she was simply awful.

Consequently she was an unconsidered 25/1 shot on seasonal debut at Uttoxeter on New Year’s Eve. That race was as bad as this one but Flight To Nowhere was just starting to make a big looking move when unluckily falling 3 out.

That’s far enough out not to know what the outcome would have been, but for sure it was shaping up to be a massive improvement on last year’s efforts.

The market here doesn’t seem to have factored much of that potential improvement, but what if she was about to burst clear.  She looks a big price today given the glimpse she showed.

Trainer Richard Price took mare Flakey Dove all the way to Champion Hurdle success, that’s not going to happen here, but with the yard starting to strike some form there’s a chance he’ll be back in the winner’s enclosure.

Recommendation: Flight To Nowhere, (1235 Taunton), 1pt win, 14/1 generally available
