Thursday Races: Get in the Know, and on early…

We have been making hay (or at least mud) in the array of regional Nationals this year and we are venturing north of the Watford Gap for Catterick’s North Yorkshire National.

A nine runner field says much about the prestige levels here, but some local trainers have doubtless made this a target.

Last year’s placed horses Gonalston Cloud and Itstimeforapint (yes please) have softer ground to deal with – that may suit “the pint” but both look likely to place at best again.

Sun Cloud’s 10yo form burst of three wins in four came directly from a switch back to hurdling – these aren’t the toughest fences but doubts persist.

We like I Just Know, who comes from the local Sue Smith yard and may well have had this race in mind since winning a chase here last February with a fine front running effort on soft ground.

His campaign this season has looked very much like one with a future plan, and here he is just 6lbs higher than that course win and with conditions and a running style to suit.

Sue will have be delighted by the low turn out, and he should be able to dominate.   This looks like a price that could halve…

Recommendation:  I Just Know, (1435 Catterick), 1pt win, 10/3 Stan James, 3s elsewhere
