We hope some blog followers collected each way on yesterday’s tip Flight to Nowhere. I can only cite the mild delirium of a bad dose of a Winter bug that failed to recognise the 17 runner handicap each way terms that should have triggered an each way pick under our each way rule (that a place only should still result in at least doubling total outlay).
No such quandary on today’s card where we are very much win only in the 6 runner 6f conditions race at Kempton (1815).
This should be fought outbe the big three. A step back in trip should suit the filly Diagnostic, but for all that she has been impressive she is 5lbs wrong at these weights which could be too much.
Donjuan Triumphant would be the clear pick on Autumn soft ground form, but the handicapper has him 12lb lower over the all-weather suggesting he thinks there’s doubts about the racing surface. That kind of suggests trainer Andrew Balding is having a brain-melt, but this long straight should really suit this long strider and the switch to sprinting is right up his creek.
The safe choice is Bryan Smart’s Mythmaker. Officially the best in horse, the biggest question with him is 13 AW runs and this is a first at Kempton. He was a close second and a close third returned to the AW just before Christmas and is the most likely to run his race, but he has the least scope to improve.
Recommendation: Donjuan Triumphant, (1815 Kempton), 1pt win, 5/2 generally available
