Tuesday Races: There’s only one Carlos…

Yesterday’s Plumpton abandonment robbed us of a great chance to add to January’s gains.  Thankfully, Tuesday’s Hereford card gives us a great chance to move on a cracking looking bet.

On Saturday we expected big things of Gassin Golf at Sandown, and he indeed ran well in third.  The issue is this longer trip, he having failed on all previous attempts.

The concern with the fancied Otter Moon is a break of nearly 9 months since his last run. He may have improved but that’s not a chance we are prepared to take at these odds.

Away For Slates should be a big contender after an excellent second at this trip before a nonstaying effort over 3 miles. Back at this trip, Slates looks vulnerable against a new gallop,

By far the most compelling profile comes from the lightly raced Carlos du Fruitier.  He broke his hurdling duck recently and is set to run a blinder here after a handicap debut that looked full of promise before a late fall.

Jockey Daryl Jacobs will be looking to make amends after that fall, and Ben Pauling’s 6yo looks primed to oblige. The opposition have their issues, and a decent bet is in order.

Recommendation:  Carlos de Fruitiere, (1505 Hereford), 1pt win, 10/3 generally available
