Sunday Races: Curry favoured at Thurles

It is across the Irish Sea, as it so often is, for some decent Sunday racing.

The racing highlight is probably the Kinnoch Brae chase which looks a match, whilst Cheltenham Festival clues may be apparent in an interesting hunter chase that closes the card.

For a bet though, we like the look of the 2m6f handicap chase.  This is an interesting intermediate distance offering a reasonable test of stamina but not as challenging as a standard 3m Chase.

This looks likely to fit glove-like to the characteristics of possible market leader Cappacurry Zak.

Two outings ago he was run out of things late on over 3miles where he would have had the race won at this distance.  Last time he was found a race at this trip and ran out a comfortable 12l winner.

That last run was a novice event rather than a handicap and the rater has rather generously given Zak just an extra 3lbs.  That may significantly underestimate the horse’s improvement at this unusual trip.

Conditons look suitable for a repeat win, with Ryan Treacy’s 5lb allowance in the sadddle helping to ensure a very competitive weight.

Recommendation. Cappacurry Zak, (1550 Thurles), 1pt win, 3/1 BetFred, BetVictor, Tote
