Monday Races: Wooly Star to shine…

An already threadbare Monday card is further reduced by the loss of Lingfield.  Nothing much appeals at Fakenham so forcing us onto the sands of Wolverhampton, thankfully there is a race there that catches the eye.

The 12f handicap (1820) looks a very well contested affair.  The favourite is Flight Of Fantasy, a filly who made all in stunning fashion to open her account at Kempton last time.  An 8lb rise, stronger opposition, and a switch to a course that doesn’t favour pacesetters as much as Kempton could put paid to her chances of a follow up, but her trail-blazing could have profound tactical impacts on the race.

Island Brave has great course form credentials, but he is slipping up the weights, whilst Mustaaqeem is heading the other way in the weights but with an AW pedigree is likely to spark for new yard Fahey at some point soon.

The one we prefer is Zabeel Star.  He is an habitual slow starter, a smooth traveller, but often a hard horse to get in front.  He has been running well at Newcastle this Winter, but now returns to the scene of his last win, and under jockey Keniry who will be riding him for the first time since that win.

It is not just course and jockey that swing the vote, the possibility of a strongly run race is key to Zabeel Star’s chances.  His smooth travelling off-the-pace style plays best to a strong gallop where the leaders get tired and he can swoop to conquer.  He may well get that today at a venue where a late charge is more effective than his more recent forays at Newcastle.

Recommendation:  Zabeel Star, (1820 Wolverhampton), 1pt win, 9/1 generally available
