So the culmination of the NFL season results in the New England Patriots looking to retain their crown against NFC Champions the Philadelphia Eagles in the US Bank Stadium in freezing Minnesota.
Both teams had impressive regular seasons and were strongly fancied for a deep run. However for the Eagles the loss of starting QB Carson Wentz looked to put paid to their hopes.
Sport, however, has a funny way of going against perceived wisdom, and following a romp in the NFC Championship against the hitherto hard to beat Vikings, back up QB Nick Foles will be hoping he can have another big night against perennial favourites the New England Patriots.
The Patriots for their part had to dig deep to overcome the plucky Jaguars in the AFC decider and a fourth quarter masterclass from legendary QB Tom Brady overturned a 10 point deficit.
Whether they would be able to do the same against this Eagles defence is open to question. Indeed the money all week has been on the Eagles with a +5.5 point head-start and it may well contract further.
We fancy the Eagles to spring a surprise and claim the win so this opens the door to a host of betting angles.
The variety of attack that the Eagles possess is noteworthy and we believe running backs Jay Ajayi and LeGarrette Blount will have a big say in the outcome.
Londoner Ajayi will surely have to have a big night if his team is to succeed and the odds about him being MVP are huge at 20/1. He has the potential to put up big numbers and indeed will have to for the Eagles to control the clock, possession, and keep Brady off the pitch.
Additionally Blount has been turned to to get the ball over the line in the redzone in the post season and quotes of him to score a Touchdown anytime and the Eagles to win are too big at 6/1.
Ultimately, we like the look of a close run match with the Eagles edging it by a winning margin within 1-10 points.
Going against the Brady and Patriots Dynasty is brave but this Eagles defence looks a great match up in the case for an upset.
Eagles to win by 1-10 points, 1pt win, 13/5 Paddy Power
Jay Ajayi to be MVP, 0.5 pts win, 20/1 generally available
Blount Anytime TD and Eagles to win, 0.5pts win, 6/1 Paddy Power
