The European Tour heads to Perth this week, not the Scottish variety but the capital of Western Australia, obviously!
The Lake Karrinyup Country Club hosts the second running of the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth event, another attempt to modernise the game with a combination of stroke and match play.
The first three rounds are stroke play, with cuts after the second and third rounds, with the field eventually being cut down to 24 players. These then play in a six-hole match play knockout format to determine the winner.
What this means is some bookies are paying out on the 54 hole leader as well as the eventual champion, creating a natural spot for our new 10-hole rejig.
Anyway, back to the tournament. One of our favourite players, especially in hot conditions, is Kiradech Aphibarnrat. The only problem with the rotund Thai star is he tends to run out of puff as the final stretch looms. However, we now have the chance to bet on him to lead after 54 holes before the pressure ratchets up and will take the 25/1 that Stan James offers.
We’ll keep our powder dry as to the event winner, and post on Saturday when the knockout draw is known.
Recommendation: Aphibarnrat to lead after 54 holes, 1 pt, at 25/1, Stan James
