PGA Tour: For DJ, life’s a beach!

The PGA Tour heads to California this week, with the famed Pebble Beach course the main venue for the AT&T Pro-Am tournament.

This event sees defending champion Jordan Speith and world no. 1 Dustin Johnson mixing with the likes of Tony Romo, Wayne Gretzky and of course Bill Murray.

Johnson is the clear favourite this week (isn’t he most weeks?: ed) and it’s easy to see why. DJ has finished in the top two in three of his last six PGA events, has won this tournament twice before with four other top five positions, and, most importantly, will not want to let down his playing partner, his father-in-law! He’s priced at 6/1, but with reason, and we’ll be aboard with confidence.

Speith won in 2017 but missed the cut last week and is struggling with his putting. Rory McIlroy makes his debut at this event and is playing well, but he missed the cut when the US Open was last held at Pebble Beach, and we’ll pass. Jon Rahm has been in the thick of battle often this season, early as it is, and we think he’s due a rest.

Instead we’ll go a little further down the list for our each way pick. Brandt Snedeker has had an only steady start to the year, but showed signs of improvement last week at the Phoenix Open, finishing T23 and shooting four rounds under par. He now returns to an event that he obviously enjoys, after all he has won twice in the last five years. At 40/1, we’ll hope the venue inspires him.

Recommendation:

Johnson to win, 2 pts, at 6/1, BetVictor

Snedeker 0.5 pts each way at 40/1, 1/5 the odds for six places, Stan James
