Saturday Nap: 9/1 the right Territory

Cheltenham clues aplenty this weekend, if you want more, and you’re near Dublin, join us in person for our Preview Night focussing on the Festival handicaps in aid of Irish Injured Jockeys, ticket details here, or subscribe for details to come of how to view online.

Back to the action at hand, we have our Daily Yankee here.

For the nap we won’t curse friend Harry Whittington’s Eider Chase bid by saddling Vinnie Lewis with the 7lb penalty of our selection.  He will go very well, but another blog favourite Hainan provides enough competition to looks elsewhere for the day’s top bet (the dual forecast there could pay well ….).

We will head instead to the drying ground of Kempton park.

The Betdaq Chase is the feature of the card and we like the chances of the lowly-weighted Theatre Territory.  This mare keeps promising and so far just failing to deliver, with three seconds and a third in her chasing career to date.

Last time at Cheltenham she ran the well-weighted Mr Whitaker close with the remainder well beaten.  She’s 4lbs higher here, but a mark of 132 means she remains near the foot of the weights.

Better ground and the step up in trip can all help, and with doubts about many of the other contenders her profile as a low-weighted novice looks ideal for this challenge.  Gentleman jockey Sam Waley-Cohen is her regular rider, and can be trusted around Kempton.

Favourite Acting Lass looks lumbered on a mark of 149, whilst Master Dee looks to have plateaued at his mark of 145.  Tintern Theatre is the other fancied novice on his win here off 134.  He is only 4lbs up, but with two Us and one F in his last 5, he is a risky pick.

We’re putting our faith in the fairer sex, Theatre Territory looks a good bet.

Recommendation:  Theatre Territory, (1535 Kempton), 1pt win, 9/1 generally available
