It was great watching yesterday’s nap Quiz Master land our 5/1 selection, a win which rarely looked in doubt.
The threat of the “Beast from the East” leaves jump racing certainly in doubt, so we’ll turn to the all-weather. Our general caution with tipping at Wolves puts Lingfield front and centre.
We think it’s time for some wild speculation. The 7f handicap (1425), has a firm favourite in recent winner Darkest Light. He made all that day under master pacemaker Joe Fanning, a tactic that works well at Chelmsford. This course is tougher for pacesetters and without Fanning he may be a little short in the market.
Ertidaad may be better over further and this shapes as though it’s open to a surprise.
Step forward Blackthorn Stick. He has some fair form at this course albeit over a year old.
He was off the course for the best part of 8 months before debuting for his new yard a couple of weeks ago at Wolves. He showed up fairly well that day to this distance but then faded over the additional 2f.
Trainer Forsey has literally a handful of horses at his Somerset yard, we always like horses on 2nd and 3rd runs off a break from small yards as it is so hard for them to get race fit at home.
Jockey Eddie Greatex is riding with great confidence, with 7 wins from 22 rides in the last fortnight.
It’s certainly speculative, but at monster odds he could bring some fun to a mundane Monday.
Recommendation: Blackthorn Stick, (1425 Lingfield), 0.5pts each way, 50/1 Paddy Power
