Friday Yankee: Bumper payday

Hard to be confident of any racing in the midst of the storm, but if the meeting at Southwell survives then it throws up some intriguing betting prospects as “jumpers’ bumpers” pit hurdlers and chasers against each other in flat races.  Whilst essentially level weights races under jumps rules, these are flat races, and many of the runners have flat ratings that allow us to determine the outcome – provided they run to form !!

The Daily Yankee:

Magic Dancer (1345 Southwell), 7/4:  Vying for favouritism with Swashbuckle and Shine Baby Shine, but whilst rated 2lbs ahead of Swashbuckle on the flat (and 9lbs over hurdles), he is a full 29lbs ahead of Shine Baby Shine.  Has no fibresand experience, but the Norse Dancer blood-line tend to like it soft and he should have few issues confirming the ratings edge.

Bordeaux Bill (1445 Southwell), 11/10:  Four runners and no flat form to speak of.  Nothing to choose between Nautical Nitwit and Bordeaux Bill on hurdles form, but Bordeaux’s form is at slight shorter trips suggesting he may have the edge for speed, and certainly has better breeding for the job.

Man Look (1520 Southwell), 5/2:  Rated 5lbs ahead of favourite Spectator on flat form and 7lbs ahead on hurdles form.  The Nayef breeding works well and hard to see why he isn’t the market leader here. Has a stone in hand on fancied Brotherly Company.  The McCain stable could be in better form, but he holds enough of an edge to prevail.

Good Tradition (1550 Southwell), 7/2:  Odds on favourite Hammersly Lake would have these thrashed in a jumps race, but Good Tradition’s flat rating of 89 is pretty tasty and there is no guarantee Hammersly can run to that level without jumps.  Decent jockey Harry Stock claims an additional 7lbs, and this has the makings of an upset.
