Saturday Yankee: Flat white please…

Snow has blanked almost the entire racing programme, but its looks as though Lingfield’s “Spring Cup” flat meeting (has anyone looked outside?) will survive and give us something to get stuck into as we go snow-bound stir-crazy.

The Daily Yankee:

Humbert (1345 Lingfield), 5/2:  Has won his last three and is keeping ahead of the handicapper.  4lbs up for a narrow Kempton win last time, but he was never going to lose that day, and his in-the-pocket racing style is ideal for sitting in here and then kicking off the home bend.  Sometimes it really is as obvious as it looks.

Yensir (1420 Lingfield), 9/4:  First season trainer Olly Murphy has been a hit over jumps and has a big chance of Cheltenham glory.  Almost as an aside, his handful of flat horses have been hitting the target with similar unerring aim.  This will be Yensir’s first run for Murphy, maximising the possible impact of the trainer switch, and this is the right time to get him.

Encore D’Or (1455 Lingfield), 7/2:  Two wins, a fourth, and last time a second over this course and distance in his four appearances.  Only went down by a short head here last week and jockey Ryan Moore will not have taken that defeat lightly.  Will be capable of upsetting favourite Atletico for whom this will be a course debut.

Headway (1530 Lingfield), 6/4:  Was a very useful 2yo, followed his maiden win with three runs in Group 2 company including a runner-up in the Coventry at Royal Ascot and a third in the Gimcrack at York.  Slumming back down in listed company, and should be sure to win if he has trained on as a 3yo and is fit enough to do himself justice.
