Only Southwell today, but the Marmite track is a course specialist’s dream and that is in turn a punter’s dream.
The one mile handicap (1620) is the feature race of the day and has numerous in-form horses with entangled form lines.
The favourite is Mister Music, looking for a hat-trick. He has stayed on well to record two 7f wins, seeing a rise from 71 to 81. That makes things tougher although the step up to a mile may help.
Spun Gold has run well on the track and is handicapped to get much closer to Mister Music than last time, but in hanging across the track he didn’t exactly breed confidence.
The one to be on is Sooqaan. This horse won three in a row over this mile in January. A 10lb higher mark than that last win is certainly a challenge, but he finished a close 4th to Mister Music off this mark and is well weighted to reverse the form. Whilst Mister Music steps from a successful 7f campaign up to try a mile, Sooqaan reverts to the mile that was so successful for him and that can add to the weight advantage.
Forget his defeat at unsuitable Wolverhampton last time, its the return to this Fibresand and this distance that can unlock one more win.
Recommendation: Sooqaan, (1620 Southwell), 1pt win, 8/1 generally available
