Whilst jump racing returns to day, we are going to let is pass whilst we assess the state of the racing surfaces. No such issues on the all weather at Kempton, where an unexposed mare really catches out eye.
Koubba, is a lightly raced 5yo mare out of the stamina combo of Peintre Celebre and a Singspiel mare. She duly improved on quiet maiden efforts when stepped up in trip for handicap debut and staying on nicely from an unpromising position to finish 4th at Chelmsford.
She came to Kempton next time where a mid race stumble cost her some ground, almost certainly enough to have grabbed second, if not to overhaul a winner who has since won again.
She was a neck behind Hi There Silver in the end and reopposes on the same terms, with Silver being the main market danger to Koubba. That neck would have been a comfortable margin the other way but for the stumble, so Koubba looks pretty good value and can be expected to improve on 5 previous runs (Silver has 20 previous runs and less room for improvement).
The Neil Mulholland stable remains one to watch in flat and jumps, and in Luke Morris Koubba has one of this track’s most outstanding jockeys. All looks set for an inaugural win.
Recommendation: Koubba, (2110 Kempton), 1pt win, 11/4 Ladbroke
