A proper resumption in play after the break for snow, with jump racing at Fontwell and Catterick, but all eyes looking towards next week. Ground conditions remain a little uncertain even for those meetings with the go-ahead, so its to Kempton this evening for our yankee picks.
The Daily Yankee:
Gronkowski, (1910 Kempton), 1/1: Has really taken off since switched to artificial surfaces and equipped with blinkers. Has an option to aim for the US triple crown and connections have a US campaign mapped out contingent on starting well here. That’s a lot of wasted planning unless he delivers tonight.
Fast Track: (1940 Kempton), 6/1: Was running off marks 10lbs higher this time last year. Has gradually slipped down, and may have opened up a new line of attack with an unlucky in running close 4th at first try at this trip last time. Trainer doesn’t have too many all weather runners but hit the mark with one last week, and may double the tally here.
Awesome Allan, (2010 Kempton), 7/2: Been hitting the bar more often than Dean Martin. Two recent runner up efforts show he is form. This step to 6f should suit. The wide draw is less of a hindrance for a prominent runner, and the return up to 6f from 5 should help a horse who nearly won at 7f not so long ago.
Koubba, (2110 Kempton), 11/4: Lightly raced mare form a good yard. Improved immediately when switched to handicaps on the all weather. 4th at Chelmsford when never nearer on handicap debut, she was unlucky not to better here last time after recovering from a stumble to stay on into the frame. She was just behind Hi There Silver that day and can reverse that form if stumble-free.
