The Monday night Premier League clash sees champion-elect Manchester City travel to relegation-threatened Stoke.
The visitors won the reverse fixture 7-2 in October, but that was with a different manager in charge of Stoke. Paul Lambert has galvanised the Potters, and they have lost only one in six since his arrival.
That said, they are still very short of goals and face a side scoring for fun. It’s true Man City will miss an injured Sergio Aguero, but his likely replacement Gabriel Jesus is not a bad player!
The Brazilian has recovered from medial knee ligament damage suffered in December, and has been gently eased back into the reckoning with some substitute appearances of late.
While we think he will be very keen to prove his worth with his club very much on the trophy hunt, we’re reluctant to take a punt on him with his match fitness yet to be proved.
Instead we’ll turn to one of our favourite players. Belgian midfielder Kevin de Bruyne has been simply outstanding and is a leading contender for the player of the season awards. There is a wide discrepancy in the odds between the bookies for him to be named man of the match. We’ll take the 6/1 that William Hill offers.
Recommendation: De Bruyne to be named man of the match, 1 pt, at 6/1, William Hill
