An upturn in racing quality today as we build into Saturday’s Flat season launch at Donny.
The Daily Yankee:
Kincora Fort, (1430 Newbury), 5/2: Caused us some damage when a smooth Huntingdon winner over an in-form Must Havea Flutter. That was outstanding form, and this novice looks to have taken really well to fences. He is 8lbs higher and in a better race here, but his jumping is outstanding and should serve him well over the stiff Newbury fences.
Roaring Bull, (1500 Navan), 7/2: Fell last time when trying to give a race to Blow By Blow, who showed the value of that effort by running away with a handicap at the Cheltenham Festival. The amazing Davy Russell is in the saddle, and on the forecast heavy ground he may be too much for stablemate Cartwright to handle.
Fizzlestix, (1505 Newbury), 13/2: Had three quick runs as a juvenile for the Skeltons, but then went awol until a decent second on reappearance 3 years later for trainer Chris Gordon. Avoided the bounce factor by following that with a win in a 3 runner affair at Fontwell earlier this week. Doubts about the others here on ground and distance, but not for this one, and James Bowen up top always helps.
Fitzhenry, (1605 Navan), 7/2: Has won his last two handicap chases at Thurles and Naas. that last win was impressive, beating a decent field and looking better the further they went. A 6lb rise is not too punitive, and the longer trip and stiff finish should both suit. Has had more tough handicap experience than favourite Augustin, and can land this for Barry Gerraghty who won on him last time.
